In the 1980s, my ex-husband and I were custodians at the Montclair Presbyterian Church. Our employment included living in the house next door to the church.

The church celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1980, and I was surprised that it had been there so long.

In about 1985, I went on the Fernwood Walking Tour by the Oakland Heritage Alliance, and from that point on, I was on a mission to learn more about the history of Montclair and Oakland.

  1. What a great site! I am interested in learning more. Please put us on your mailing list as you compile more data. We have lived in Montclair since 1997. Before that, I lived in SF and my husband in Oakland. And, in ancient history, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan; and my husband in Kansas City, Missouri. (Go Chiefs!)
